Games to play against the computer

No need to wait for anyone: every game on this page puts the computer across the table, and the first move comes within seconds. Perfect for a late-night game of backgammon or a quick round on the bus.

The computer opponent is always labeled “Bot” and is never passed off as a real player. In most games you can pick its level: easy to learn the rules, hard to test yourself. When you feel ready, send a friend the link and play the same game with them.

  • Four Stones: Line up four stones across, down or diagonally. First to four takes it.
  • Vanishing XOX: You only get 3 marks. Place a new one and your oldest vanishes.
  • Admiral Down: Hide your ships and send your rival's fleet to the bottom before they get yours.
  • Backgammon: Your dice, your tactics. Bear off first and gammon them before they gammon you.
  • Mangala: Sow stones pit by pit, then raid your rival’s treasure with the last one.
  • Turkish Checkers: Pieces move forward and sideways, and capturing is a must. Crown a king and sweep the board.
  • Nine Stones: Line up three, steal a stone. Whoever drops to two is out.
  • Box Grab: Connect the dots. Close a box and you go again.

  • Word Duel: Swipe across the letters and find more words than your opponent.
  • Eras at War: From cave clubs to space lasers: send troops, jump eras, flatten the enemy base.
  • Odd Sheep Out: Everyone picks in secret: match the flock to score, stand alone and you’re the odd sheep!
  • Word Chain: Start a new word from the last letter and keep the chain going. The clock shrinks, lives run out!
  • Doodle Party: One player draws, everyone guesses: first to get it scores big. No art skills needed, laughs guaranteed!

Frequently asked questions

Does the computer cheat?

No. It plays by the same rules you do; in backgammon its dice are just as random as yours.

Do I have to wait for an opponent?

No. Open the game, choose to play the computer and the match starts right away. There is no matchmaking and no room to set up.

Are the games really free?

Yes. Every game is free to play, with no in-game purchases and no paid levels.

Do I need to download an app or create an account?

No. Games run in your phone or computer browser and you can play as a guest right away. An account is optional: it keeps your badges and leaderboard spot and lets you add friends. You can also add the site to your home screen and open it like an app.

How do I play with a friend?

On a game’s page, tap “Play with a friend” to create a room, then send the link however you like. Your friend opens it and you’re at the same table. No way to send a link? Reading out the 4-character room code works too.
