How to play
Goal: Send in your troops, power up by jumping eras, and wreck your rival's base before they wreck yours.
Step by step
- The base on the left is yours, the one on the right belongs to the computer. Gold trickles in on its own.
- Train troops with the buttons at the bottom: melee fighters are cheap and quick, ranged troops hit from the back, heavies are pricey but tough. Troops march and fight on their own.
- Every enemy you topple earns you gold and XP. When your XP bar is full, hit "Next era": the new era's troops are way stronger.
- There are six eras: Cave, Bronze, Castle, Gunpowder, Engine and Star. Each one has its own special power (rockfall, healing, the Mehter March war band, cannonball rain, smoke, an orbital beam).
- Use "Turret" to put defence towers on your base: open new slots, upgrade an older era's turret, or sell it.
- Knock your rival's base down to zero and you win.
Rules
- The training queue holds up to 5 troops, paid for up front.
- You earn a little XP when your own troops fall too, so whoever's behind can bounce back.
- When fighting right at the gate, part of the damage spills over onto the base.
- Heavy units hit bases harder.
- Your special power charges every 45 seconds (the first charge at the start takes 30).
- Upgrading or selling a turret gives back half of the old turret's price. 3 slots max.
- After 10 minutes, overtime kicks in: both bases crumble a little every second.
- The computer plays by the same rules with the same income as you, with no bonuses at all. Difficulty only changes how fast and how well it decides.
Controls
- Touch: Tap the buttons at the bottom. Drag the battlefield left and right with your finger; tap the minimap up top to jump there. "Follow the front" brings the camera back to the action. Turn your phone sideways for a wider view.
- Keyboard: 1, 2, 3 train troops; 4 or T opens the turret menu; Q next era; E or Space special power; arrow keys scroll; Esc pauses.
In online matches
- Two players face off, and each of you sees your own base on the left.
- The match starts after a 3-second countdown. There's no pause: the battle keeps going even with the menu open.
- Rules and the winner are decided on the server. If you lose connection, the game waits for you briefly.
- When the match ends, a rematch starts if you both want one.
Tips
- A few melee fighters up front, ranged troops behind: the ranged ones fire safely from behind the wall.
- Jump eras as soon as your XP is full; old-era troops don't last long against new-era ones.
- Save your special power for when the enemy is bunched up.
